Fiddle, Feet and Fusion

World Music which features stomping feet, swirling kilts, electrifying fiddles, hot rhythms and sultry vocals - that’s the fusion this family band offers.

Fiddlesticks are three energetic fiddle players, three dancers and a brilliant African drummer – and all belong to the same family – the Jacksons. They will be performing at the Emerald Multicultural Festival on Saturday 19 April at the Emerald Racecourse from 4-11pm – free entry

Originally from New Zealand this band offers a wonderful mixture of youthful exuberance and age old experience. Fiddlesticks features George’s Highland Dance (in 2006 he represented NZ dancing in Korea), Mackenzie’s seven year love affair with African drum and dance, fused with the award winning skills of Jacko and Karen on electrified violin and vocals.

Fiddlestick’s visit to Emerald has been made possible by a Regional Quick Response Grant – an Australian Government initiative through the Regional Arts Fund, supporting the arts in regional and remote/isolated Australia.

On Sunday 20 April at the Emerald Dance Academy (behind the library) a Hip Hop Workshop will be offered from 10.30-11.30pm – Adults $10, children and Arts Council members $5. Mackenzie, 16 years of age will conduct this session. He has also learnt dance since he was 5. He is passionate about Hip Hop and Breaking and currently choreographs Hip Hop routines for his school dance troop.

The workshop would start off explaining and teaching a few of the elements of dance that go into hip-hop which  are, "PopLocking", "Krumping", "Breaking", "Gliding" and "Tricking". He will then use these elements in a short routine which showcases each element. At the end participants will have some fun with some of the more advanced moves in hip-hop such as Back Flips, Windmills, L-Kicks and more.
