Streetscape Designs to take shape as part of the CBD Revitalisation Project.

Street Art

Streetscaping Emerald for the 21st Century took a step forward late last year when the award winners and public artists gathered together at the Town Hall to discuss how best to bring these designs to finished art pieces.

This is a follow on from a competition, sponsored by Emerald Shire Council and BMA Gregory Crinum Mine, which was conducted in July last year. The competition sought ideas and concepts from the general public for the CBD Revitalisation Project. Stage One of this project focuses on the Egerton, Anakie and Borilla streets area.

In consultation with the architects, Hassell, the services of well recognised professional artists, who have had extensive experience with public art installations, have been engaged.  Margaret Worthington Catherine Smith and Scott Maxwell and Indigenous professional artists Darryl Black has agreed to work with local entrants.

The public artists will work on a hand full of the designs for banners, sculptures and mosaics which, when installed, will enhance the ascetics of this project.

All involved are excited at the prospect of bringing these designs to their completed form and believe that they will help in portraying Emerald as a progress and vital community

Undergrounding Power

Alinta has been awarded the contract to lay conduits (pipes) in the CBD area for the underground installation of power. Removal of the poles and overhead wires will take place later in the year . This company has successfully carried out underground HV & LV work on many similar projects recently including one in Emerald.

Above Ground Work

Final detail design drawings and documents are nearing completion. Tenders and quotations for the above ground work will be called in March.
